Deer Stalking in Devon
Situated on the edge of Dartmoor National Park, Canonteign Estate is
one of Devon’s most breathtaking sights and the perfect location for
Deer stalkers to pursue their sporting passion.
Deer Management
Deer Management is an important factor in maintaining our estate and as part of the nationwide Deer Management Project, in conjunction with Dartmoor National Park we are traditionally managing the deer herd, conserving habitats and ensuring the long-term health of the wild deer population in Devon. In the absence of predators or control, a deer population will rise to the point where winter starvation and disease become the limiting factors and overpopulation leads to damage to woodland, farm crops and many other problems.
Few stalkers who have not been formally trained are able to examine carcasses for disease, know how to avoid contamination and can safely put venison into the food chain. Our professionally qualified Deer Manager is a member of UKADM with over 20 years experience, and he offers traditional accompanied deer stalking of the highest quality and standard for both our shooting and photographic guest, working to a sustainable management plan.
Stalking Costs
Stalking on the Canonteign Estate in Devon is usually done on a one to one basis and takes place during the first and last hours of daylight. A stalking session can take between 2 to 3 hours, mainly sitting in a high seat, but occasionally on foot. We are sorry but we cannot offer stalking to groups. Whether you are a novice or experienced stalker we offer tutoring to all levels and we can tailor training courses to suit your own requirements.
